Privacy
Effective date:
Your privacy matters to me. This policy explains what personal data I collect when you visit this site, send me a message or subscribe to my newsletter, why I collect it, and your choices. I keep it short, collect as little as possible, and never sell your data.
Who I am
This website is run by Jean Laurent, an independent product designer based in Lisbon, Portugal. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), I am the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
You can reach me about anything privacy-related at hello@example.com.
What data I collect
I only collect data you choose to give me, plus a small amount of technical information needed to run the site.
Contact form and email. Your name, email address, company (optional), the kind of project you need, your budget and timeline (optional), and your message.
Call bookings. If you book an intro call, your name, email address, the time you choose and any notes you add.
Newsletter. Your email address, the date you subscribed, and basic delivery statistics such as whether an email was opened.
Private case studies. If I give you access to password-protected work, your name, email address and login details.
Usage data. Anonymous, aggregated information about how the site is used, such as pages visited, approximate country and device type. This is used to understand which content is useful, not to identify you.
I never ask for sensitive data, and I ask you not to include it in messages.
Why I use your data, and on what legal basis
Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
Replying to your message and discussing a possible project | Steps taken at your request before entering into a contract, and my legitimate interest in answering enquiries |
Scheduling and holding intro calls | Steps taken at your request before entering into a contract |
Sending the newsletter | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
Giving you access to private case studies | My legitimate interest in sharing confidential work safely |
Understanding how the site is used | My legitimate interest in improving the site, or your consent where cookies are involved |
Keeping records for tax and accounting once we work together | Legal obligation |
Who I share data with
I don't sell or rent your data. I share it only with trusted service providers that help me run this site and my business, and only as much as they need:
Website hosting, forms and analytics: the platform this site is built and hosted on.
Email and newsletter: my email provider and newsletter service, which store subscribers and send emails on my behalf.
Scheduling: the booking tool behind the "Book a call" link.
Member access: the login service that protects private case studies.
Embedded media: video and music players (such as talk recordings or playlists) load content from their providers when you choose to play them.
Each provider processes data under a data processing agreement or equivalent safeguards. Some of them may store data outside the European Economic Area; when that happens, transfers are protected by an adequacy decision or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
I may also disclose data if the law requires it.
How long I keep data
Messages and enquiries: up to 24 months after our last contact, unless we start working together.
Client records: for as long as Portuguese tax and accounting law requires, typically 10 years.
Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. After that I keep only your email on a suppression list, so you're never added again by mistake.
Private case study access: until access is no longer needed, or you ask me to remove it.
Analytics: in aggregated form only.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
Access the personal data I hold about you.
Correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
Delete your data, where there's no reason for me to keep it.
Restrict or object to certain uses, including anything based on legitimate interest.
Port your data to another service in a common format.
Withdraw consent at any time, for example by using the unsubscribe link in every newsletter.
To use any of these rights, email hello@example.com. I'll reply within one month.
If you believe your data has been handled unlawfully, you can also complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD), or to the authority in your own country.
Security
I use reputable providers, strong unique passwords and two-factor authentication wherever available, and I limit access to your data to what's needed. No system is perfectly secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
This site is meant for professionals and is not directed at children under 16. I don't knowingly collect their data.
Cookies
For details on cookies and similar technologies, see the Cookie Policy.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy when the site or the tools I use change. The date at the top always shows the latest version. If a change is significant, I'll mention it in the newsletter.
